Ravensdown’s integrated report shows progress on climate action
Ravensdown’s 2022 Integrated Report published today shows the fertiliser co-operative owned by primary producers is tracking well against its strategic objectives.
Highlights include:
A 12 per cent reduction in carbon emissions from fertiliser against the previous year.
A net reduction of scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions of 2,206 tonnes of carbon dioxide (14%) since the base year of 2018.
Confirming plans to convert the company’s Dipton, Southland coal-fired combustor to biomass eliminating at least 1100 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions per year, almost 10 per cent of Ravensdown’s direct carbon footprint.

LIC – First lower-methane cows could be born next year
Scientists have discovered a group of bulls that release 15% less planet-heating methane than average – and more than 30% less than high-emitting animals.
The research, led by diary breeders LIC and CRV, will now breed daughters from the low-emitting group then compare the methane produced by these cows with emissions of the daughters of the highest-methane bulls.

Auckland Council releases Transport Emissions Reduction Pathway
Auckland Council has released a very encouraging, 80 page document: the Transport Emissions Reduction Pathway (TERP). The TERP describes what is required for Auckland to successfully reduce transport emissions in line with Te Tāruke-ā-Tāwhiri: Auckland’s Climate Plan.
